Yesterday my sister was unable to boot her PC
We've had an issue like that in the past but it seemed to fix itself after a few button presses/ replugging and whatnot, but now it just seems completely dead.
I assumed at first maybe a dead PSU, since it was already a second hand one from an old shop years ago and wondered if it had finally given up the ghost, so we went out today and got her a new one. Problem is, it still doesn't boot. My next guess was maybe a connection in the power button itself had failed, so I thought of replacing it with the reset switch instead, to no avail.
What I discovered though, using an old mobo, both the original PSU *and* reset button technique work, CPU spinning and all. So now I'm assuming it's all stemming from my sisters motherboard instead. I'm getting the green standby light on the board, but I can only get just a barely noticeable fan start on my GPU.
The simplest explanation that i can only think of now would be a power cut that happened a few weeks back. She was using the PC, and someone turned on the heater and she just shut off. The only thing thats weird is that she could used it fine after that, until it stopped booting last night. More importantly, are the rest of the parts fucked? I don't mind getting a replacement mobo, but a whole rebuild is kinda demoralizing
