Goners and Vessels are of the same species for the thing you make your vessel with is called the Gonermaker from I recall, meaning they most likely are just non-human versions of vessels thrown together by Gaster - potentially following him like a father since they are called "Gaster Followers". I think of them more as FRIENDS, though.
