That one, unlike lots of classic lit, actually starts off pretty quick and has a cool premise that you might enjoy early on. The MC is a big burly firestarter, which is like a firefighter except he's paid to set things on fire actually. Specifically, he's paid to set books on fire. And he's a big dude. Big smoky dude. And he loves to burn things. And everyone around him is basically soulless as fuck and only enjoys netflix slop and takes pills to stay happy. Talking to them is like talking to NPCs, but it's okay because he's kind of an NPC too. But he's a big sexy burly NPC with a firefighter body and he smells like kerosene... haha... anyway, then one day, he meets this young girl who actually doesn't behave like an npc because her parents are hippies or something, I guess, and don't subscribe to all this modern world bs. So she's different. And she's interested in you-- I mean him, haha, and she follows him around bugging him with weird questions that make him uncomfortable, like Are you happy? and stuff. And slowly his worldview cracks.

All of this happens very, very early on. I'd recommend reading it. I got through the whole thing in a day, and it was very entertaining.

My secret dream, though it's not tenable due to how people are here, is to one day start an /xivg/ book club where we read a chapter a week and then meet up in a house/apartment to discuss our thoughts on it. But I'm not naive enough to think it would work, and honestly I don't like reading enough to keep it going very long probably... but when I do see people reading things here, I pounce on it. I should make a librarian glam for my lala. But I digress, check out 451. And if you want dark fantasy stuff, check out naomi novik's works. Uprooted was pretty good.
