Ultimately, you decided that it would be best to remain with Young and march at the head of the volunteer army. Even if there were people here who still didn’t trust you, you absolutely meant what you said to Khonshu earlier. Even monsters deserved protection sometimes. Young recognized that as well. So did your parents, to a certain extent. A modern age required modern monster hunters. Ones that could discern monsters from misunderstood supernatural creatures. And that meant not discriminating against any one creature for the misdeeds of a vicious monster.
So, with that in mind, you approached Young about a proposition. A proposition for the Zombie Prince.
—----
Just as you suspected, Young was very receptive to your idea. So was Shaggy, to your mild surprise. He hated the idea of wasting an available resource like the countless undead at Simon’s command. That was more than could be said about the volunteer soldiers in your group, however.
The thought of having the Zombie Prince lead an army of the undead to march alongside you was a little too much for them to digest. Especially when they had all just narrowly survived the equivalent of a miniature zombie apocalypse. Even knowing how they would feel about it, though, you still requested that Simon be given the option of defending his home. You wanted him to know that he didn’t have to fight if he didn’t want to, but just being there to show his support would be enough. Everyone had to know that the Metropolis stood united in their defiance of Varnae.
Thankfully, Young made it seem like Simon was all too eager to strike back at the manipulative bat demon. Shaggy offered to travel with their group so as to provide flanking opportunities via his portals. Deadhead also volunteered his services to keep an eye on Simon, just in case Varnae somehow regained control of him.
Neither you nor Young liked the idea of sending a potential assassin after one of your allies, but you also didn’t like the idea of having Simon’s forces suddenly turn on you mid-battle. The dog and mercenary wished you luck before they left, and you wished them the same.
As the zombies departed, so did the House Morvayne and the Amazons. Ana rode alongside Delphyne, and Louise rode behind Ward and his forces. You thought her decision to accompany the vampires was a little curious, but you eventually wrote it off as her wanting to keep an eye on them.
Next were the Were-Clans. Carnelian urged his forces forward–not in an organized march, but in a dead sprint that brought the word “stampede” to mind.
Finally, it was your group’s turn to start moving. You expected Ben, Harpy and James to join you after they finished distributing Ben’s weapons to the volunteers. But to your surprise, the three of them informed you that they were given a different mission by Mina.
“What kind of mission?” you asked.
