You're not fucked at all, but you do need to be very careful. I have seen quite some people with missing digits from various metal trades mishaps, and the general consensus among normal people is that one needs to be careful around heavy machinery.
Crazy, I know.

The proper term is press brake (there are different kinds of brakes), and pay very close attention to all your training (unless under very controlled circumstances, your fingers shall never touch the blades of machines), and get trained on all the types of cranes, and in general just try not to get squashed, and then you might be successful in metal fabrication. It is a dangerous game, though, ngl.

Regarding the shear, and with anything with an automatic clamp, watch your fucking fingertips at all times and never relax (pretend that niggers will steal them if you take your eyes away), because you can lose them in an instant if you fuck up.

I love my metal trade, and I miss pretty much everything about it, but it's easy to get killed if you're not careful, and the employers don't care either way. If you get snuffed, you are just an insurance loss.

I say this to you truly: they truly do not care if you live or die, whereas to me, the smell of hot machine oil still gives me an erection, and training apprentices seems normal, and when I die, which is relatively soon, all my knowledge is also gone, which is going to be part of the upcoming competency crisis. :-)

In some ways, I'm sort of glad to be scheduled to die soon, but in other ways, I want to stick around to enjoy the show. Wat do?
