Rome will be sacked.
Idiocracy every year looks more and more like it was right about everything. Dumb mindless workers push buttons on machines that do nothing. People are fed the lowest cost slop companies can put out. You'll live in a pod and eat processed meat. You'll occasionally meet an old man that can remember when everyone used to be smarter and technological leaps were commonplace. He'll tell you his great grandfather owned a house and lived in a place where everyone had houses.
Ethnically white westerners and the Japanese will be treated like rare endangered species but no one will know what to do about that. Most likely they will live in isolated communities in Western Europe that managed to get a tourniquet on things or in mid west America.
Educational requirements will be reduced in a desperate attempt to employ competent workers in critical fields like medicine until the system finally collapses and big pharma steps in to replace doctors entirely with AI. Surgery will be performed by machine and be fatal 10% of the time.
Slowly critical infrastructure will fall into disrepair until all these companies can produce are food to keep their populations from starving to death while they chop logs for fire.
The average worker will be some mix of Mexican, Indian, Arab, and African. Then finally when the machines completely fail, whats left of Rome will burn.
Warlords will claim the worthless treasures of the rich, smartphones with empty batteries, ancient toys and curious inanimate wonders. We will return to a sort of feral tribalism where the largest and most violent groups survive. After a time of bloodshed a young empire might emerge. Reading a programming language to them will be like the average person now trying to read old english. Words to them will seem long and complicated.
The smartest will wonder how such a great empire fell. From the scraps they will understand people were liberated, decadent but also in decline.
