The one thing I can think of is that all that makeup and weird clothes hide imperfections making a meh looking person looks better, same with clown girls. But if the girl already is pretty then she would look better without all that. Also facemask, people tend to look better with one since the brain just fills the void with a neutral to idealized face. You see way more people who turns out to not look as good without the mask than people who looks good without the mask but not with it.
