Heavy thuds reveal the intruder standing in the doorway of your parents room. Mother's Mercy, what is that!? A humanoid thing, undead judging by the wounds and rotten meat clinging to its body. A noseless skull face greets you, a naked grin full of teeth opening as it acknowledges your existence with milky eyes. Antlers and a mutation that almost looks to be claws extend out of the sides of its head, covering its ears and neck. Its hands are mercilessly large, with four claws-for-fingers the size of your arms.
''It doesn't matter if the beast is grieved, angry, scared, or hungry.'' Your mother said during archery practice. ''Shoot to kill, or the one bleeding out will be you.''
Ironwood bows are enchanted by the hands of faeries.
The arrow that comes out of it causes a shockwave of wind that disturbs every small objects in the room, sends your parents blanket flying, rattles the nearby wardrobes, and your hair flies wild. The arrow sinks, probably breaking into the reinforced torso of the entity, which nearly loses its balance from the force.
Two.
The shockwave of wind almost sounded like a clap of thunder. You don't have enough space to fully draw your mother's bow. Twenty-five arrows oughta do!
Three.
Why, why, why, why can it still walk forward? Why is it not on the ground? One shot would break all of your ribs!
Four
That shockwave shakes your balance. The creature tries its best to inch forward. Undead endurance is unfair!
Fi-No!
The entity lowered its stance. Flashes of the undead dog jumping and Seyraphal lunges fill your instincts.
You drop your bow and grab your Focii. ''Extend!''
!!!
''Uurgh!'' The harsh impact of the wooden wall on your back makes you cough out all the air in your lungs. Keeping your head leaned forward saved you from a bad concussion.
Mother Earth aegis dwindles physical and magical forces. Crashing so violently means one thing: Her blessed shield saved your life.
''G-Get...'' Speaking is useless. That bloody murdering thing is twice your height and bigger than you, too. Its massive claws dig into the large round surface of the aegis, your arm pressed down painfully against your chest as the entity's strength is simply, far, far superior to anything you can muster. This position also drives the four arrows further inside its chest, and that is likely why you are still alive because the creature's movements are slow, almost lazy. It hasn't realized your shield has an edge, trying instead to bust its way through.
