Difficulty is whatever Capcom wants it to be, contrary to popular belief, World / Rise weren't the easiest games in the series, before Wilds, P3rd was by a longshot if you exclude the final boss (and that was the best selling oldgen game of all of them). World has a decently easy basegame, but then had the title updates with Ancient Leshen, Extremoth and Gen 5 Alatreon as some of the harder intended single-monster fights in the series, even before the optional Arch Tempered's or modded quests.
Until then, self-imposed seems the best way to go.
