Loyalty/identification are largely overlooked aspects of team building. Some people talk about Fluminense's reconstruction starting in 2022, when in reality it started in 2020 with the club's first non-embarassing season in 8 years and qualifying for the Libertadores for the first time in that same period. The club still didn't have money, and the team was full of old players, a bunch of shitters and homegrown zoomers who weren't reap yet. But that year they had Fred who was both a great leader and a player with a strong identification with the club. The homegrown players like Martinelli, Luiz Henrique, Marcos Paulo, Calegari and Julião tried their best. Luccas Claro, Nenê and Egídio were very professional and took the club seriously. The team was definitely not good, but Fluminense had the two first decent seasons in years by simply having players who wanted to be there and wanted to win.
You could triple Bokita's budget. If your squad is composed solely of mercenaries who wouldn't cry or bleed for Boca, it won't work. Even if they're good, they'll shit the bed when the time comes. Hay que tener huevos y corazón.
Picrel is Nino and Yago Felipe with the Beetle they'd drive to the training grounds. Small details that show you when the players feel something for the club. And it shows on match day.
