Nobody triggers that lost feeling in Shadow except Maria. Not Amy, not Rouge, and as politely as possible, I'm very sick of this headcanon that Shadow would settle for someone simply because they're very superficially like Maria in some way - especially when it's coming from the same people who insist Maria is "Shadow's sister" while simultaneously *using* her likeness to overwrite her.
If you artificially recreated Maria and her eyes were even a single shade off, Shadow would be able to tell that it's not Maria. Their souls are connected. He was made with hers.

I believe people should feel free to ship Shadamy or Shadouge or the likes, some art of it is cute, and the following isn't directed at just one person. But for the love of God, don't kick dirt over Shadow's bond with Maria in order to do that. It irks me deeply because it tells me that Shadow's story isn't important to the shipper and they're into their ship merely for aesthetic, surface-level reasons instead of because they think the characters have a genuine emotional connection. It's disrespectful and hedonistic; it's a symptom of cultural rot where shallow dopamine-hit pleasure-chasing is valued over art, stories, love, soul, and all of the other things that the most successful cultures in history placed extreme value on.

It's possible to ship Shadouge/Shadamy without discounting the sheer depth of Shadow's love for Maria and the impact she had on his life, but it seems the majority of people just think it's easier to pretend Shadow is someone different entirely.
I don't get the point to shipping if you are going to turn the characters into someone they're not. It's not intended as a personal attack even if it's taken that way. I love Shadow, I love ideas, I love stories that emotionally impact someone enough to change their life. And here people are suggesting those stories are valueless things that never mattered. I'll never understand.
