No one had any reason to expect anything coming after them to go that way, XY were early enough in the 3DS life that everything that would become a problem later could be forgiven as growing pains. They never grew out of them though. To the point that Game Freak is split into 3 fucking teams despite only having like 150 employees.
Only thing I like hearing is that the Pokemon Devs morale has bottomed out with them not getting any positive praise from anyone and being openly called the black spot on Nintendos software track record.
Currently GF isn’t even doing interviews in Japan for their upcoming game because even out there the journalists refuse to talk about it and want to talk Pokemon and why Pokemon doesn’t have this production value
