"Arachnophobia" mode is an indicator of certain prioritizations during development. The mere inclusion is a sign that the developers had to divert attention away from other aspects in favor of pandering to some meme checklist made by the terminally online (better than a corporate checklist, right?). It's a sign that the developers themselves never had the mindset to take better advantage of what they were creating, because that approach leaves little room for clout-chasing. If it's happening at all, then I can only put so much faith in the creator's passion.
