that's entirely irrelevant to the point i was making.
i'm starting to believe a certain amount of people simply work on the principle of "recognize pattern -> initiate practiced response pattern". like, they aren't capable of reflection, of thinking about what they're recognizing. they just automatically respond with the pattern that they've been conditioned for.
it's pretty depressing.
