I had a weird amount of friends who weren't allowed to watch The Simpsons when I was a kid in the 90's. Like there was a smattering of both conservative and liberal boomers who couldn't stand the way it poked at American culture.

Anyways, by the time Family Guy came out I wasn't in the mood for a cruder version of The Simpsons, which I stopped watching after Y2K in favor of cartoon network fare and animu fansubs.
