If the daughter is more likely to thrive and reproduce, it might naturally result in a matriarchal group until speciation (race) is achieved.
The groups would also be more likely to share similar mitochondrial DNA.
I don't have time to create a complete hypothesis, only suggesting this might be the case for jews being matriarchal and expressing numerous genetic diseases.
