that is something western writers struggle with, like captain toe fungus and scarlet witch, objectively speaking, were the bad guys in their own outings (holding an entire town hostage for imaginary children isn't something a good person would do) and destroying planets for the sake of war (that and the actor did not fucking emote at all, a plank of wood could of played it and nobody would've noticed the difference)

not to sound like a weeb but Eastern media in general historically speaking treated women a hell of alot better statistically speaking despite claims otherwise, yes fan service does exist, not only that but have been far better written with heroines with actual faults and flaws that can fail, that can come up short or lose only to learn from said mistakes, the west are scared of showing that women can have flaws due to social media backlash, even villainesses are just "misunderstood" like no you cursed people because your petty and jealous there's nothing to misunderstand there.

unironically even the most generic precure magical girl show or fan service panty shot filled smut fest has better written female leads then Hollywood has been able to come up with in the past near decade of girl bossing.

the issue isn't that written women are strong or capable, the issue is that the writers don't understand that people are complex, have their faults and flaws and they can't write women for shit without making them mary sues or misunderstood villains.
