Sentient beings endure hardships and misfortune, as immeasurable suffering presses upon their bodies
But Avalokiteśvara's sublime wisdom and power are able to save the world from this suffering
Perfected in his transcendent powers, he widely practices the wisdom of skillful means—
In all the worlds in all the ten directions, there are none in which he does not manifest his form
And all types of deplorable rebirth: into hell, as a ghost, or as a lower animal,
And the sufferings of birth and aging, sickness and death—through him are these all finally made extinguished
Perceiving with truth, and with purity; perceiving with all-encompassing wisdom
Perceiving with compassion and mercy—the constant aspiration and worship of the world
Shining pure and unblemished, his sun of wisdom pierces through all darkness,
A fire capable of overcoming all winds of calamity, whose universal light illuminates the world
From the body of his compassion, his commandments quake like thunder, while from his mind of mercy, condensed into a great cloud,
He pours out the sweet nectar of the Dharma's rain, extinguishing all flames of worldly desire
In passing before a judge to dispute a case, or while standing in battle formation, trembling with fear,
Should one keep Avalokiteśvara's powers in mind, all those who wish him ill shall scatter and disperse
The sublime sound of Avalokiteśvara's brahmic voice is the sound of the ocean tides,
Winning out over all those other noises of the world—and for this reason should he always be kept in one's thoughts
But one must not, for even a single thought, doubt the purity and sagacity of Avalokiteśvara,
For amidst the sufferings of death and misfortune, he may serve as a refuge,
Resplendent in all perfected virtues, and with eyes of compassion gazing upon all beings,
His good merit amassed like an ocean, immeasurable—for these reasons does he deserve homage
