I have a theory that Ammonites filled the niche of large Filter Feeders. As far as I know we only have partial remains of Leedsichthys and specifically not of it's head but people tend to reconstruct it as a ram filter feeder and all of the other large Mesozoic marine animals we've found also are not filter feeders so I theorize that some Ammonites filled that niche particularly the larger species. Modern Nautilus are carrion feeders but not all ammonites would fill that role but I imagine them floating in the water columns with their tentacles unfurled catching plankton much like how the Vampire Squid eats. I also like to think that a large group of ammonite would be called a Flotilla
