There are a lot of topics that intersect with this one that might give you a better angle than diving straight into western mysticism/esotericism/philosophy which the best books tend to be dense material that dive right inot the subject without much introduction. What is your normal comfortable reading? I ask since all of these topics tend to repel or attract people based on what they typically read.
A lot of people come at it from architecture, religion or history or physics/mathematics. There are a couple of entry level books with broader appeal also that are general recommendations but if you have a specific area of interest I can give better recommendations.
