I think it has nothing to do with ideals, Nyaan joined Zeon because of survival. That was Nyaan's main priority from the start which makes sense considering her background as an illegal. It's pure basic instinct on her part, that's why she doesn't have a coherent answer and that's why she is so confused when she shot Kycilia because it's the first time she actually does something important that put her at odds with her instincts in favor of saving someone else. I don't think the writing is the best in GQux but I think Nyaan's character is pretty straightforward, whether you think she is justified or not it's another thing
