I always enjoyed stuff about girls who willingly put themselves in situations like these. Apart from swimsuits, it’s just the implied nature of the character and their psychology which makes it so enjoyable.

On the one hand, the amount of training required to freedive for an extended period of time is impressive alone. However, the act of intentionally diving into underwater ruins alone implies not just skill but sense of confidence and possibly hubris. It also reinforces the idea of extended solo freediving experience as well as maybe a solitary loner type personality, implying that may be the type who feel more comfortable underwater alone than with others, implying an interesting person, perhaps one of those quiet girls with sleeves past their wrists and hair covering one eye. Also, another common trope among underwater peril images are just straight up girls who get a perverse thrill just throwing themselves into dangerous situations.


When shit gets real and said damsel is now in distress, not only are they in a perilous situation but it’s also humiliating as it’s a situation the damsel foolishly placed themselves in and now they must confront the consequences of their own hubris and folly, realizing that they’re not as cool and/or special as they thought.
