Had the thought of Dess being stuck in a Silent Hill esque hell that looks like Hometown for who knows how long.
I think that would be the worst possibility, being stuck in a copy of your hometown that's either completely empty or has things in it that resemble the people from it, and might even try to convince you they're your old friends, family, and neighbors, but still try to hurt/kill you.
If you managed to survive years of that, you'd probably have gone completely pscyho and likely can't adjust to "normal" anymore.
Someone trying to save you from that would feel like another trick.
You would likely have forgotten or had the memory muddled of what they used to look like, along with time passing also changing what they look like, so you'd just assume it's another one of those things that wants you dead.
