I've always been astonished at how uncritically women suck up compliments as sincere, thoughtful gestures - when they come from the right man, of couse - instead of what they really and obviously always are.

That said, gratuitously complimenting women in the current year is as stupid as talking to cops. You cannot help yourself; you can only hurt yourself.
