Tbf, most people didn't think it was ever going to get this bad. Hindsight is easier than prescience by a LOOOOOOOOOONG way. And most people just aren't smart enough to think that deeply about what's coming round the corner. We genuinely thought we were on the cusp of entering a golden age of technology and freedom.
