Despite rightwing rhetoric claiming otherwise, there's in fact never been any such system of slavery as what we saw in the trans atlantic trade. Where slavery was chattel, generation and based on race all at once. Once in a while you will see shades of these qualities in other systems of slavery, but never together. And even apart they're genuinely rare.
In the vast majority of historical instances, slavery was reserved for conquered people and criminals (note that we still enslave criminals today). The slavery was seen as a mercy since your society was not executing its belligerents. And these slaves almost universally enjoyed more rights than American slaves.
