Who genuinely gives a fuck about the Watanabe Mode. I’m pissed that they decided to reuse Kurosawa Mode again, guy wasn’t the only one doing samurai movies and his shit was consistently mogged by people who made actual revengekino like Harakiri and The Sword of Doom. Why didn’t they highlight directors like Hideo Gosha, who mogged tf out Kurosawa’s jidaigeki? It’s such a tacked on name, especially cause Kurosawa never made revenge as the main subject of his jidaigeki. They should’ve leaned into the more stylistic shit like a Kazuo Koike Manga Mode or Inoue Takehiko Watercolor Mode or even fucking take inspiration from actual revengekino like Lady Snowblood and Lone Wolf and Cub.
Watanabe and Miike are such safe picks lmao, like everything else they did with the game. It’s a nothingburger in comparison to reusing Kurosawa’s name again.
Anyway, go fucking watch Bandits V.S. Samurai Squadron and all six Lone Wolf and Cub movies while blasting this album to 11, hurry the fuck up.
