So I have no interest in playing this game, but is it true that most of its "fans" will make fun of you for trying to take the story seriously? I've noticed a lot of people starting it up and immediately taking the piss out of every single scene, while the few who don't and try to approach it like a legitimate narrative are being told they're somehow in the wrong. Like there are so many comments about "Kojima-isms" and ironic references to yaoi that it almost seems like you'd be in the extreme minority for knowing the basic plot, instead of communicating exclusively through memes.
Obviously I'm generalizing, and obviously Kojima has always been eccentric, but with DS2 it's legitimately hard to find anyone who cares about it beyond this whole Reddit-esque "so bad it's good" framework that you see so often. Hell, some people seem upset if you just say you enjoyed it, without specifying that it's actually terrible, or something. Like it's weird to enjoy a game sincerely for what it is trying to do.
