Out of 212 million Whites in America, Only 19 million Whites in America identify “White American” as their ancestry on the census. The rest - a whopping 193 million White people - identify their ancestry and ethnic identity as some kind of European diaspora living in America ir English-American/Anglo-American, German-American, Irish-American, Italian-American, Polish-American, Albanian-American, etc.
Where this actually matters as opposed to being a trivialities seems to vary. In my experience, Whites in the Northeast are more ethnic and feel more connected to their ethnic roots compared to the rest of the country.
