Ironically 1980 to perhaps about 2005 (around when the original GITS anime came out) was the golden age of anime. They were hating on literally the top of the artform producing shit like pic related (yes I know it was a movie but even the original TV series was animated better than 99% of western and jap slop today) while they were getting upset that the censors wouldn't let them sneak dick and gay sex jokes into cartoons for eight year olds.
