Russian forces are reportedly concentrating forces in southern Ukraine for a potential large-scale offensive in Zaporizhzhia Oblast.
Petro Andryushchenko, head of the "Center for the Study of Occupation," reported on June 27 that Russian forces are engaged in a significant transfer of military assets through occupied Mariupol, likely in preparation for intensified offensive operations along the Zaporizhzhia front line. This build-up suggests a potential effort to launch new assaults in the Huliaipole and Orikhiv sectors, areas that have recently seen localized but persistent Russian attacks.
Andryushchenko provided details on two main axes of movement observed on June 26:
Eastern Axis (from Russia): A convoy moving along the Rostov-Novoazovsk-Mariupol route towards the Pology and Berdiansk directions was observed. It reportedly included approximately seven heavy equipment transporters carrying armored vehicles, including tanks, and over 40 trucks transporting personnel and ammunition. This axis would directly supply forces arrayed against the eastern part of the Zaporizhzhia front.
Southern Axis (from Crimea): A second convoy originating from occupied Crimea and Kherson Oblast was seen moving through Mariupol and eastward toward Rostov. This formation consisted of over 20 trucks with personnel and approximately five transporters carrying BMP/BMD-series armored fighting vehicles.
These movements are consistent with previous patterns of Russian forces using Mariupol as a primary logistics hub to supply operations in both southern Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia Oblasts. The reported concentration of forces could enable Russian command to escalate assaults on Ukrainian defensive positions near Huliaipole and Orikhiv in the coming days.
