it`s actually proof that monogamy is required for high level civilization. most of the world population was not living within civilization a few thousand years ago there were at best only a few civilized areas and likely in those areas the number of men reproducing was higher.
female elk choose the male elk with the largest antlers. these large antlers were metabolically expensive and got caught in trees easily. when humans arrived they found the irish elk easy prey. the species was not able to adapt to the times because only big antler chad elk got to breed. they went extinct. natural selection is stupid sometimes and so are human women
