From what I can tell as someone who's dissected little bits of Jax's character from the anus up since I started watching this show when episode 2 came out (I'm a simp, yes): He's one of those people who needs to actualize himself by controlling other people. He only feels real when other people are acknowledging it; when he acts, and people react, that makes him feel powerful. There are healthy ways to deal with this, but most of them require a lot of patience and building good relationships, which inherently impulsive people like Jax just can't abide by. Jax hurts people both physically and emotionally because they give him good responses, and while he finds those FUNNY and entertaining in a schaudenfreude kind of way, he also finds comfort in the fact that he's forcefully exerting his power over them. He's stronger, he's in control, he's better than them, he's above it all.
This is why he likes picking on Pomni, Ragatha, and Gangle so much - they're either too weak to fight back, or won't fight back - but are still emotionally sensitive enough to respond. He tends to pick on Pomni and Gangle directly, since he knows they'll acknowledge him, but picks on Ragatha by doing "bad things," since she's smarter than to actually let him hurting her affect her (more or less). You'll notice he picks far less on Zooble or Kinger, because the latter doesn't give him any reactions (because he's crazy) while the former can actually fight back. Jax is a bully who's comfortable hurting other people, until the moment they start hurting him.
IRL, a critical part of impulse control is wanting to control them. There's people who walk around with actual murderous impulses, who never hurt anyone in their livesm because they think it's wrong. But narcissists - and so, Jax - don't want to change, because they don't think anything's wrong with them.
Maybe I can fuck him though. That might calm him down.
