Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck is a German-Austrian filmer director. His movie Das Leben der Anderen won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. He also wrote and directed the The Tourist and Never Look Away. Florian was a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader and has attended the organization’s annual meetings.

Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck is a descendant of the House of Henckel von Donnersmarck, an Austro-German nobility family. Holy Roman Emperor Rudolf II ennobled the family in 1607, after Lazarus Henckel, a banker and mine owner, financed his war against the Ottoman Empire. Its members were major landowners. They were also prominent in the mining, steel, and iron, industries.

Several family members have been Knights of Malta including Lazarus IV Henckel von Donnersmarck, Count Leo-Ferdinand Henckel von Donnersmarck (President of the German Association of the Order of Malta) and Count Winfried Henckel von Donnersmarck (who was a member of its Sovereign Council).

From 2000 to 2008, Count Heinrich Henckel von Donnersmarck was the CEO of the SIX Swiss Exchange, Switzerland's principal stock exchange. Countess Veronika Henckel von Donnersmarck married Baron Erich von Goldschmidt-Rothschild of the Rothschild and Goldsmith banking bloodlines.
