I've been running Horror on the Orient Express over the past eight months and something I'm really appreciating about it is that it focuses on an underappreciated part of Lovecraft's writing: Dick-ass sorcerers.
I feel like a lot of Lovecraftian fiction hyper focuses on gods and cultists, forgetting that a good deal of his stories have random evil wizards who mostly act alone. The Terrible Old Man, The Thing on the Door Step, Case of Charles Dexter Ward, Dreams in the Witch House, etc. all feature mostly solo magic users as their antagonists.
While Orient Express does place some of these sorcerers into cults, the focus is really on them and they act more like the bad guys in those aforementioned stories. My party has been especially loving the Jigsaw Prince (though they still keep calling him The Frenchman after meeting him in Blood Red Fez).
