Salazarism did a number on the Portuguese psyche and they've yet to recover. They are some of the biggest American dick riders in Europe, but due to Portugal's small size (there are more people in my city than Portuguese people in Portugal) and distance from anything that matters, nobody gives a fuck about them. Russians live rent free in their mind. I once heard a Portuguese boomer say that when he was a kid, blonde kids were made fun of, being called "Russians" (the absolute state of MOORtugal) To this day, you see talks on Portuguese media about going to war with Russia.
