That's partially false.
As far I know, they tried to seize parts of the country and coup Govt institutions and Maduro didnt tolerate that. When the order to kill them was given, it got leaked and some escaped, other were given the chance to escape or die.
Why? Because they were kidnapping local and foreign business owners/investors/tourists and it came into clash... After that the "Tourism" boom started.. You can petty much hire a tourism agency and come to do vacations here in Venezuela cheaper than most of countries. I've seen plenty europeans everywhere, doing streams in tiktok and shit.
