Canto 1 and 2: Ignored or treated like a joke by his own sinners except for Outis who's clearly faking it, Meursault because he has no reason not to follow orders, and Gregor because he relates to Dante's helplessness.
Canto 3 through 4: Sometimes helpful but still treated like the team's healbot.
Canto 5: Starts to come into his own as a leader, relies less on Faust's judgement.
Canto 6 through 8: Nearly all the sinners trust him and his judgement at this point; his biggest flaw as a leader now is that he's too weak and fragile to defend himself.
