The fresh water fish called Lostriță, which would be Huchen/Rotfisch in English and German, used to be more widespread and is said that it grew much larger.
Supposedly before the building of the large hydroelectric plant with Yugoslavia at the Iron Gates, these guys used to swim from mountains rivers in Moldova all the way into Austria and would get to immense sizes and were dangerous to small animals and even children were warned when playing in water.

At least that's the story some old people tell
