They are good places to live if you go purely by "metrics", just like how Canberra is the most walkable city on earth due to it's bazillion kilometers of well maintained paths... the issue is, everything is so far apart and has no shade and it's like 2 hour walk to the local shops, it's not walkable at fucking all and nobody walks anywhere in Canberra.
Australian cities are good if your peak life is being stuck in a suburban house and you can leave the door unlocked because it won't be robbed and there is very little crime. That is the beginning and end of it.
The issue is Australian cities are expensive as shit, hyper-car dependant, are unwalkable, no walkable amenities, dogshit public transport (I would often wait hour-2 hours for a bus that would take 2-3 hours to reach somewhere that is literally only 15 minutes away by car), they are ultra overzoned to a pathological level and have no community or nightlife at all.
Another issue is the Government fucking HATES nightlife, along with all the nofunallowed Gen X and Boomers that make up Australia's population, who noise complaint to death any nightlife venue within a 100km of them. This leads to Australia functionally having no nightlife or weekend anything to do at all if you are not interested in sport.
These charts are bullshit and are exactly why Neolibs are full of shit. Metrics only tell part of a story and can be very decieving.
Pic related what 99% of every Australia city looks like in reality.
