Maybe Brainiac had it set to trigger from a specific codephrase so he could always keep her docile and implant orders into her, but when she attacks Earth Jimmy panics and starts babbling about the time they spent together, one of the words he says was the phrase making her stop, her eyes greying out as she awaits any order to be given to her.
Of course, Brainiac doing it himself would also be based. Imagine his echoing voice ordering her around simply for his own satisfaction, and pleasure, if he's given himself some "upgrades". Perhaps forcing her to dance for him and twerk in a humiliating ritual the Earthlings practice after she starts to show sympathy for what should be Brainiac's new conquest.
