S3 is an example of having a great story and theme in mind but terrible execution, not just because the ending narrative doesn't match the irl story, but because kitasan as character doesn't really match the whole "I am past my peak" bs, someone like symboli rudolf has the maturity to make it work, but you look at kitasan even once and she doesn't sell that image, which is especially hilarious since the ending is basically going to school forever like the rest of those freeloading uma retiree hags (while also meta since the irl kitasan was anything but past his prime).
S3 made the mistake of picking the one fucking horse in the entire setting with a controversial retirement and that was mogging his competition during his last year (except for that one time..) and only because the studio got greedy instead of thinking it through and actually make a narrative that actually worked, make kitasan an obstacle that an upcoming mc uma needs or wants to beat, you know a larger that life figure the same way Rudolf was for everyone there.
But fuck it, dia-chan, cheval and her sisters were cute and I do want to rewatch S3 again, if only for cheval love confession kek
