absolutely despise this fantasy trope. why the fuck are elves and dragons and aliens and demons and just nearly fucking everything except humans and adjacent stuff given stupidly long life spans? I have NEVER seen a single instance where a whole race of people being a thousand years old ever made sense, writers just make them arrogant or reclusive or something but equally as short sighted and mortal as any other race. even if they did write them to be believable it'd just be stupid, thousand year old characters work better as standalone or as a contained group. vampire stuff works since it's a small section of people with a rare condition not a whole civilization with rulers that can learn and improve over the course of centuries.
malfurion and tyrande's long lives seem to only exist so they can go through several wars and events without it happening one after another, cut down the crap to the needed stuff or do what mortal races do and have several generations of a certain family go through stuff. undead are the only race to get a pass I suppose but I'd imagine they would rot after time or just go nuts being unfeeling husks so they're the same as any long lived race. it's stupid, so stupid, you can easily forget any elf or draenei or demon is a billion years old until they reference they were at a thing a thousand years ago or bragging to your mortal character about how much better they are for having an extra dozen centuries of picking their ass over you.
it should've been family lines of characters, magical improvements instead of immortality for elves, and certain cases like velen, old god minions, and top dogs of the legion. even aspects don't pass since in universe they had several thousand years of nothing and then when WoW starts they have a dozen tragedies within a blink of their eyes. I fucking hate long lived characters in anything, I hate every character getting to brag about being old, I hate it so much
