As I watch more shows from various decades, my opinion is calcifying that it's just supporting the then establishment.
I'd expect, if made today, Allo Allo would be banned for homophobia and Mr Bean banned for phobia of neurodivergents... imagine trying to ask something like Channel 4 to air the laundrette episode with its crossdressing and ambiguous gay joke, you'd be kicked out the door before someone screams transphobia!
