Because most of the time they simply do not care about nor embody the character they are playing. It's like Netflix anime-->live adaptations - none of the people on the project give a fuck about the source material, they care about the cash. Seeing a girl cosplaying your waifu is supposed to be a dream come true, a fantasy. If you know that it's all for the money then it ruins that, and it's just another woman.
