We don't even know what the mission is right now, we just run around closing the fountains. The Prophecy that Ralsei gave us in chapter 1 has no clear mission statement, Knight was never fingered as a main antagonist we have to stop, even Roaring was introduced as a possible consequence rather than something we are actively trying to stop. Chapter 4 was the first time we got the actual glimpse of our mission, and everyone still kept taking crucial pieces out of it.
