Read Truth for Germany by Udo Walendy. The Treaty of Versailles was imposed on a demilitarized Germany by the western Allies who never demobilized their army. Arbitrary parts of Germany were lopped off like Eupen, Elsass, lower Silesia, Posen and western Prussia without any plebsicites because the point was turning Germany into an economic colony. They only held plebiscites where the outcome was guaranteed to be in their favor, like majority Polish regions and revised the Treaty of Saint Germain with Austria during the negotiations after the Austrian parliament voted to join Germany. Self determination was used and abused to dismantle Germany and leave huge numbers of eastern and balkan Germans at the mercy of violently anti-German regimes.
