Japanese anime that isn't massive in the west (like Frieren which is pretty mediocre) are often amazing. I watch old movies and shows and read a lot of books from the fin-de-siecle so I can confidently say that a good amount of modern anime are actually decent non-pozzed stories. Comparing the average anime that isn't famous in the West to modern western TV is night and day. Suddenly it's like the creators of TV remembered how to write a fucking plot again.

The list goes on and on. Old shows/movies and modern Anime is enough to escape with. Right now I'm enjoying pic related which is the perfect example of normie hate bait.

The average normie attacks and hates this show because it's too crazy and "obviously retarded" when in actuality, the show is a very solid RPG story that includes countless fun vending machine transformations and lore. It's just the sort of thing a normie would ignore for being "too weird/dumb isekai" when in reality it's one of the best isekai you can watch.
