There is something primordially appealing about these kinda scenarios, like they appeal to this innate human sense of justice, even if the outcome is ultimately worse for both parties involved. I think, personally, I find regret to be a powerful driving force, it's an epiphany that gets people to reflect and grow up. Maybe there is some kinda of evolutionary benefit to that that makes it desirable to see.
