that is pretty much my take on the movie too. scattered kino with the majority of the movie being meh. they could have done so much more with the premise, and made it a lot less dumb.
just some adjustments:
>the kids stumble upon actual infected in the city who no one had noticed due to being indoors (still alive for whatever movie reason required)
>due to these infected now coming out and the security realising the sudden threat of potentially thousands of infected in the vicinity they begin major operations clearing house by house
>get to follow them doing that instead of boring ass sniper creeping on people scenes
>zombie action is cool, simple as
>due to security being spread out they can't post sufficient sentries when the mom is eventually brought in
aaand the rest is still gonna be retarded, but at least this would improve the movie overall to me, and add some humanisation for the army dudes who went from killing actual threatening infected to fleeing civilians.
